FAQ

Midnight Sun Psychological Wellness Centre or MSPWC is a budding mental health practice operating in the Northwest Territories and Alberta. MSPWC offers in-person, virtual, and phone sessions to clients of all backgrounds. Moreover, MSPWC also offers diversity and wellness workshops.
Individuals usually seek therapy when they are struggling with their emotions, life challenges, or experiencing altered mood states. However, there are many other reasons why an individual may seek therapy. Simply, therapy seeks to aid individuals in gaining a deeper understanding of themselves and making certain adjustments to areas of their life so that they experience post-therapeutic growth. Thus, any person seeking to explore themselves, or feel that they would benefit from personal growth, may find therapy to be useful.

If you are considering therapy, but are unsure if you need it, please contact us to discuss your options. We offer a free 20 minute consultation to all potential clients.
At MSPWC, we understand that finding the right therapeutic approaches, and practitioners, are essential for clients to do their best therapeutic work. As such, we offer a variety of therapeutic approaches and specialize in many areas. We also offer a free 20 minute consultation for our clients to determine if we are the right fit for them. Ultimately, we aim to provide our clients with a positive therapeutic experience by being flexible, warm, compassionate, and knowledgeable.

The cost of each 50-minute session is $180 as per the fee schedule provided by the Psychologists Association of Alberta. However, we know that sometimes this cost can get in the way of accessing therapy. As such, we offer a sliding scale whenever we can. Please call us to discuss your options.

As your therapist will likely be in session much of their working day, the best way to communicate general information with your therapist is through emailing, calling, or secure messaging through Jane. If your therapist is unavailable during a specific time, they will contact you as soon as they can for more urgent communication or within 48 hours for more general communication.

Please note that MSPWC does not monitor their phone or email lines 24/7. If you are having an emergency or require immediate assistance, please call 911. If you need mental health assistance in the moment, please call the Alberta Mental Health Line (24/7) at 1-877-303-2642 if you are in Alberta or the Northwest Territories Help Line (24/7) at 1-800-661-0844 if you are in the Northwest Territories. Normal therapy sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes. There are times when longer sessions may be beneficial for the client. In those cases, sessions are scheduled for 90 minutes. Please talk to your therapist if you have any concerns about the session duration.
Absolutely! Confidentiality is one of the most essential parts of conducting therapy and MSPWC takes clients’ confidentiality very seriously. We only collect the information we need from clients, and never anything more. We also review confidentiality and limits to confidentiality in the first session during the informed consent process.

MSPWC uses Jane, a booking application, to record client information and appointments, conduct virtual therapy, bill, and document session notes. Jane is a secure online platform also used by physiotherapists and chiropractors. Clients are asked to make a Jane account where they can manage their appointments, attend virtual sessions, and message their therapist. We encourage clients not to email any personal information to therapists through the regular MSPWC email, but rather to use Jane’s double encrypted messaging feature. For more information about Jane, please visit the telehealth information page.

Appointments can be made one of two ways:

  1. You can contact us through the ;contact us tab; where we can and book your appointment for you.
  2. You can make a Jane account where you can book, cancel, or reschedule appointments at MSPWC. Please see ‘About Jane’ under our telehealth information page for more information.
As of right now, the session options in the NWT are virtual or phone sessions. The session options for Alberta are in-person, virtual, and phone sessions. Please talk to your therapist about which option best fits your needs.
Clients only get charged for the sessions that they have completed. Unless otherwise agreed upon, each client is billed after the session and is expected to pay for their session within one week of the completed session. If there are extenuating circumstances, please talk to your therapist.
As therapists schedules usually book up two weeks in advance, it is very important to call or email and cancel 48 hours in advance. This allows people who are waiting for an appointment to book in when someone cancels. However, we understand that life happens. Our policy, at MSPWC, is to waive any fees for the first no-show or late cancellation. After that, each no-show or late cancellation is charged the full fee of the appointment. We always encourage our clients to talk to their therapists if there are issues with showing up to therapy. Together we can find a solution.
